Summer Camp is Coming! Mark the date and register
for Summer Camp. Last Week in August at the Hyatt -
Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. We are planning a fun few
days and it is a real learning experience. An owner
of a larger agency who is a member of a major consortium
told me the other day that he gets more bang for his
buck out of sending his staff to Trams Conferences than
any other conference in the industry, “bar none”.
Summer
Camp Details Here.
CB means ClientBase. Just so you are
aware of the use of this abbreviation in this newsletter.
We call ClientBase "CB" - when we are referring to any
version. CBW is the ClientBase Windows version that
we referred to as ClientBase Plus. CBO is ClientBase
Online and is the browser version that we run on a Oracle
database.
Said It Last Month - Will Say
It Again. If you are not using TouchBase, you are missing
the boat. In the past week I have had users mention
to me how much they love it. Customers are calling and
emailing to thank them for the birthday greetings and
welcome homes. Ask your Trams Sales Rep about it or
email Sales@trams.com.
Have You Used Help in ClientBase?
Try using help in CBW - top left Menu Item. Use the
Index Tab and just type one or two words to see available
topics for that entry. Under the Contents tab are the
actual chapters of the CB manual. Read one of the chapters
online to get a more in-depth overview of that program
area - this saves lots of paper too! If you think we
should update, change or add something, send your suggestions
to training@trams.com.
Live Connects - Documentation. If
we announce a new Live Connect between releases of CB,
the Help documentation is attached to listing in the
Live Connect section of CB at www.trams.com.
Regent Seven Seas is a good example of this. You will
not see their documentation in CBW until the 3.6 release.
See
the Regent setup instructions here.
InterBase - What Version Are You Using?
Did you know our newest Interbase Version 8, IB2007,
will give your database better performance? Click on
Help|About within CBW and check out the IB Server Version.
If it's V7 or below, email support@trams.com
and upgrade to V8 (Version 8.) It is a free upgrade
to 99.9% or our customers.
Good Idea to Test Integrity of Daily Backup
It is a good idea to restore the back up your Trams
database monthly, using the Trams Backup/Restore utility,
BUT restore it to a different alias
to check the integrity of the database. (The restore
process also cleans up any index issues in the database
by regenerating them.) NEVER restore Trams.ib (older
version are Trams.gdb) until you have restored the backup
someplace else.
- Go to Start|Programs|Trams|Alias Utility.
- Create an alias named Backup and type: C:\Program
Files\Trams\Database\backup.ib (older versions it's
.gdb). Do not test as this database does not exist
until you restore your backup to it.
- Restore the last backup to the Backup Alias (it
creates the new backup.ib [older versions.gdb] when
it does this). IMPORTANT: If you
get any error message and cannot complete restore,
call or e-mail support for help immediately.
- Log into ClientBase with the alias, Backup, and
make sure all was restored correctly.
- If you can look at the details of one profile, the
database is healthy.
- You might want to restore again using your regular
alias to clear up index issues, but only after completing
step 5.
